Day two - 1st August 2017

Day 2 - Python, not the reptile

Should I continue calling myself "the little intern"? I think I will.

After much bragging at home about how she is now working in a tech company, the little intern began her second day at work. She pulled her jacket sleeves on, threw her bag on her back and was on her way.
It would be have been pretty weird if when the little intern was told she was going to be using a programme called python to do her code through, she would have thought of the snake 'python'. Confused as she would have been, soon she would have realised that she was not, in fact, going to work with a reptile that knows coding. Wow, how embarrassing would that be! *silently regrets having this thought actually pop up in her mind, even if it was for just a little while*.

The little intern began to feel like a real coder as the day went by. She learned more and more about how to tell- in the language of code- the programmes she was using to do all sorts of things.

ON A SIDE NOTE

I must say, its very easy to mistake people typing on their keyboards as the sound of rain coming from outside. The little intern looked behind her so many times to see if it was actually raining but instead found that all the workers were actually typing away at high speed. (This is the part where Kathleen tries to type that fast and ends up pressing the backspace button so many times for two reasons:

  1. She was making so many mistakes whilst putting in commands on the programme
  2. It actually made it sound as if she was typing faster)

Another misconception along with, working in tech is boring, is that it is stressful and the atmosphere is very strict. In my opinion, working in these companies, such as Movidius, doesn't seem to give you the stressful atmosphere at all.
Workers are aloud to take a small break anytime to make themselves something to drink/ have a quick snack and even though they don't talk to each other much during work hours, they still somehow have a lot to talk about during lunch. If you're wondering the topic of conversation isn't always about coding.

Finally, after several tea-making breaks, the little intern was done her second day at work. With the awkward "see ya later" she was then off home, ready to prepare once again, for her next day at work.

Comments

  1. They are a few pythonistas on Teen-Turn Advisory board--fantastic to see you're learning coding.

    1. It's really interesting to basically see the code behind all the "pretty pictures", I love it!
