Day three - 2nd August 2017
Day 3 - 3D printing an obsession
OK, so the usual:
- Come in the building
- Sit down at desk
- Get set up
- And be shown what the task for the day is.
Using different programs than she had used before, the little intern was set on a mission to help fix several models she was going to be printing. Even though it probably wasn't the hardest job to do, deleting little floating bits and excess pieces from the models did make the little intern feel important.
I mean come on, she was printing a model of Trinity College! Not only does the little intern admire this college, she in fact has a slight obsession with their library, as she does with many other libraries. Though Trinity's takes one of the top spots on her list as her Pinterest board is -yes, you guessed it- filled with photos of their bookshelves and architecture. So, since she was basically printing it, it was a pretty big deal.
This video shows how the Trinity College - 3D reconstruction model was made by Movidius, using a DJI Phantom!
The little intern was shown how to set up the large 3D printer and learned how to do it herself. After a few of her mistakes, having clicked the wrong buttons, opening the wrong file by accident, or even just forgetting the next step (she can't remember which one was the mistake), the printer was set up and began printing.
With a jolt of surprise and excitement the little intern pulled out her phone and documented the progress of the printer.
The rest is frequent check-ups on the printer and anticipation for the finished piece. With another few models left to print during the week, this made the little intern even more excited for her next day at work :)

Videos coming up of the 3D printer at work in the next blog post ;)
